Broomball's Passion Project: Update

Sydney and I started our Passion Project of bringing action to RAINN, which  stands for Rape,  Abuse, Incest National Network. We were planning on bringing attention to it and do multiple things such as holding a self defense class to help people, women especially feel more confident and would know some self defense moves if they were in a bad situation.  Not far into the project Sydney and I decided we should do something else, we had noticed the school could use some uplifting and encouraging things.  We choose to do Acts of Random Kindness. We've been mainly putting encouraging notes in people's lockers.  We're not exactly behind schedule but we are a little stuck on what else to do.

From here we will continue putting notes in lockers and really brainstorm on what else we can do. Right now we're stuck on what to do so this Friday we will come up with more ideas and carry them out in the next few weeks. We aren't planning on changing our project, we just would like to do other acts of random kindness.

I've learned that just the littlest action can impact someone quite a lot. I'll be around some of the people who we've put notes in their lockers and when they first see and read it they feel special and seem quite happy.  I've also received some of the notes because we put "pass it on" on the notes.  After seeing this I'm going to try more to do random acts of kindness, I love making people happy and to feel special.

Broomball's Passion Project

For my Passion Project I will be working with Sydney with bringing attention to RAINN. RAINN stands for Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network. We will be making brochures for it, for people to learn about it and to help make a change. We are going to try to creat some bracelets for people to wear (maybe buy them & donate to RAINN). People wearing the bracelets will bring attention to RAINN by not only the people wearing them but others as well. Sydney and I will also hopefully have a self defensive class to help people feel more confident that if someone was to rape or attack them and if they actually get attacked they'll know how to defend theirselves.

I'm doing this project because of all the people who get attacked or raped. It should have attention brought to it. I hate seeing things on the news of this happening to someone, and by doing this can help them recover and prevent this from happening.

Broomball's a Goofball

Just like The BalloonFest '86, an embarrassing event happened to me... As a younger child I used to act very shy and timid around people I didn’t know and if I was alone without a friend with me.  For my 3rd grade year, I started going to a new school and of course being at a new place with people I’ve never even seen in my life I was super nervous.  So far, the day had a gone by really well I thought….until lunch came around. My nerves kept getting worse because I didn’t know where to sit. I walked to a desk that was at the front of the room (we ate in our class room at our desks) and put my food on the desk. Sitting at the front of the room made me much more nervous, so as I was sitting down in the chair somehow I sat at the tip of the chair making the whole chair slide out from under me!! The chair slid out and slammed into the metal desk behind me which made the LOUDEST – and I mean the LOUDEST – metal clashing sound ever.

As if that wasn't embarrassing enough, when I fell I hit my elbow on the ground and I could have sworn it was broken from the amount of pain going through my arm.  Considering I was a 3rd grader at the time I started crying… My teacher walked me to the nurse, which felt like the walk of shame with my class staring at me whist I walk out of the room and down the hall way. Once I made my way to the nurse my elbow and arm had turned three shades of purple and was pretty swollen.

The nurse had to call my mommy to come pick me up.  I had the wonderful ride to the child urgent care unit to tell my mom what had happened, which seemed to make the situation even more embarrassing..at least it was only my mom that I was telling this to. Then once I arrived to the urgent care unit I got to tell the doctor about my lovely first day of school as well!!!

Thankfully my arm didn't break, it was just fractured. I had a cast put on for a couple weeks and after that I made sure to check if my chair was right under me before I sat down, especially on the first day of school.
